    Shooting Live Music Performance

Quint Starkie at Bush Hall, London – I recently had the pleasure to meet and shoot ‘Super’ Quint Starkie, support act to Francis Dunnery and Band at Bush Hall, London this January. Quint is an English musician originally from Accrington, Lancashire. After living and performing in Los Angeles in the 80’s he now resides in […]

    A Visit to Stonehenge 2019

January 2019, and I have already achieved a first!  My first ever visit to Stonehenge in Wiltshire, UK.  Thanks to my out of date Sat Nav we took the longer scenic route via as many B roads as it could find.  However, once we got nearer we got the feeling the stones were beckoning us […]

Life as a light chaser

Hello, welcome and thanks for stopping by.

january 2019

Well January you certainly didn’t disappoint (although the New Forest is still waiting for some REAL snow).

Just the most amazing show by the multi-talented Francis Dunnery at Bush Hall, London – the last date on his ‘Big Lad in the Windmill Tour’. See my ‘Shooting Live Music Performance’ section for a taster.

Shooting Quint Starkie was fun – www.quintstarkie.net, and I look forward to doing it again!

Capturing the jaw dropping performance of guitarists Luke Machin and Guthrie Govan on stage was a real treat for me.  Lucky to grab some great shots too!

Francis Dunnery, London – 2019

December 2018

While we await the much anticipated arrival of Santa’s sleigh, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  Sadly it’s not a good time of the year for everybody so be kind, to yourself and others and I hope to see you all on the other side of the madness.

NOVEMBER 2018

Well after weeks of fireworks celebrations that’s my birthday over for another year! Not sure I am another year wiser but I certainly am still enjoying my journey of photographic self discovery :) This month I visited the Royal Photographic Society at their HQ in Bath – most interesting and wonderfully inspiring. As someone who is self taught and who always works alone it was great to see other folks passionate about their art also.

OCTOBER 2018

Hello Autumn!  Great to see one of my images of the multi talented David Longdon of Big Big Train featured in October’s issue of Prog Magazine.  Why not check it out.

More good news to report, I have been shortlisted for another prestigious photographic competition, more to follow … watch this space.

If you would like any of my Scotland prints, or any other of my images, please get in contact with me – I would love to hear from you!

Happy Halloween Pumpkin Day

SEPTEMBER 2018

Wow what a long summer we had – lots of fine weather continuing through out September and still the Christmas adverts arrived!  I loved taking photographs at the Dorset County Show, and I was lucky to also go back to my spiritual home in Scotland for a short break.

AUGUST 2018

Ok, who left the heating on? It’s still seriously hot here, even my dogs are preferring to stay indoors and find the perfect prone position in front of the fan! From a photographer’s view I have never seen so much blue sky, its quite unnerving.

Some amazing events happening around Dorset and the New Forest, as the summer shines on.  I had an awesome time at Sandfest 2018 on Sandbanks Beach last month – people watchers paradise with some banging tunes. Also, very much enjoyed shooting the Beach Polo – see my NEW events and polo sections above.

I won a first for photography at my local village show, while my flower arrangement fell short of the mark (actually it fell apart) and my home cookies failed to impress the judges but did impress my family.

The grower of these impressive beans certainly knows his onions!

Bourne Free Pride Festival in Bournemouth was as fabulous as always.  See some of my images in my What’s New section.

ENJOYING BOURNE FREE AND THE SUMMER SUN

July 2018

Wow, anyone else melting in this heat? Yes the New Forest is enjoying a balmy and hot hot summer with temperatures in the high 20 degrees Celsius which translates to ‘roasting’ or ‘a right scorcher’.  As I process my photographs my PC is slowly melting into a puddle of goo, or is that me?  Anyhow July!!! I’ll be shooting my days away at Bourne Free in Bournemouth later this month as well as the British Beach Polo Championships at Sandbanks, just to name a  few of the fantastic events this month.

june 2018

At last I got my wish! Yes, it’s hot, sunny, summery and almost sizzling here in the New Forest! What a great start to June , but believe it or not it gets even better readers.

1st June my interview went live on the Royal Photographic Society (RPS to you and me) website. They have chosen one of my monochrome images to feature in their In Focus Friday Feature (Fantastic).

http://rps.org/special-interest-groups/documentary/blogs/2018/june/in-focus-friday—inkspirational

I am so thrilled to have been recognised by the RPS! It’s a real honour.

At the end of May I was lucky to catch Pantheatrix at the Alice in Wonderland themed Bournemouth Metropole Market. They played the parts of the Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter and White Rabbit, who together with the Queen and Knave of Hearts, Alice and the Dormouse took part in the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. I just love Alice in Wonderland.  See my ‘What’s New’ section for photos!

Must be off now for I’m late, I’m late for a very important date!

MAY 2018

Mayday!  Mayday!

Yes it’s May and may your May be everything you wish it to be.  So for me a bit more sun, heat, dare I say ‘summery’?  That would be just dandy. It’s also that time of year when some of us are looking to the summer holidays and the big reveal!  For me I am pretty much in shape already, unfortunately that shape is that of a potato :(

april 2018

April showers??  More like fetch the wood, hammer and nails – we’re building an ark!  Yes here on the edge of the New Forest, UK, the beginning of April has been a tad rainy :(

Still, I was very lucky to have a dry yet rather cold and breezy day shooting photographs in Poole recently. The super talented Artist and Tattoo Artist Emma Garrard (formerly of Living Art Collective, Bournemouth) has created the most fabulous original leggings featuring her own artwork! #YEW #yewarelove

Check out my ‘What’ ‘s New’ section for more details and photographs from the day!

march 2018

“Oh the weather outside is frightful ….” (to be sung in a Frank Sinatra stylie). “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.” As 2018 ‘marches’ on here we are 1st of March already and we are seeing the first snow of the year here in the New Forest. An excellent day to stay in with a mug of green tea, chocolate biscuits, a cosy blanket, a couple of dogs to share the sofa with and a heap of photographs to process.

FEBRUARY 2018

I fear I may be suffering from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). The long grey days, cold rain (we haven’t been lucky enough to have snow yet where I live), shall I go on? I can’t but feel a tad low as there is such little light most days.

Saying that to get into the Spring/Summer vibe, myself and Mother tried on some sun hats whilst on a recent shopping trip. It’s the UK, it’s Winter, yet for a fraction of a second we were in a tropical ‘paradise’. Imagination is a wonderful thing indeed. That and a sense of humour!! (see pic below)

It’s all about ‘layering’ this Winter, including hats!

JANUARY 2018

As I am a fair-weather photographer when it comes to the outdoors I look forward to taking some more portraits this month. However I do admire those ‘hardcore’ photographers who capture amazing images of sunrises, sunsets and stunning landscapes whilst wrestling with the inclement weather. My hat (woolly of course) goes off to you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome to 2018 and a new year full of promise and potential, and of course photography.
